Christmas at South Side Baptist Church

"Who is Jesus?"
This may be the most important question you will ever ask in your entire life. Most people believe that Jesus of Nazareth truly lived, walked the earth, and one day, died by crucifixion. In fact, history has written record of this fact. However, what most people don't realize is that Jesus made some extraordinary claims about himself:
  • The bread of Life
  • The way to God the Father
  • The truth of all truth
  • The Messiah - the sent one
  • The light in the darkness
  • The answer to the world's brokenness

Are these claims true? If so, what does it all mean?

During the month of December, leading up to Christmas, we will "Prepare Him Room" in our hearts.

Worship Experiences for Your Family

Sunday Morning Worship

Our church family gathers every Sunday Morning at 10:30 am to worship God in song and learn more about God and following him through the preaching of the Bible.

We will be answering the filling in the sentence "Jesus is ____." on Sundays from December 11 through the 25. Each week, we light a new candle in the advent wreath, preparing for when Jesus will step out of heaven, and be born as a human being, to live a perfect life, die in our place, rise again the third day, and create a way for us to be restored to God.

To learn about what we offer for kids during the Christmas season and what to expect, keep scrolling until the end where we will have a FAQ section.

Christmas Eve Service

For many years, our church has held a candlelight Christmas Eve service. This year's Christmas Eve service will be held on Saturday, December 24 at 7:00 pm.

The Christmas Eve service is a shorter service, where we sing a couple songs, light the final candle of the advent wreath, partake of the Lord's Supper (i.e., communion), and light our individual candles – showing that just as Jesus was the "light to the world," so we are to show people the light of Jesus.

To remind yourself of the event, we'd encourage you to mark "interested" in our facebook event for the Christmas Eve Candlelight Service.

Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions
DO I HAVE TO BE A CHRISTIAN OR A JESUS FOLLOWER TO ATTEND SOUTH SIDE?
Most definitely not. We welcome everyone, including atheists and skeptics, and will treat you with the upmost respect.
Where are you located?
We are located at 1130 E Jackson Road, South Bend, Indiana, on the corner of Miami Street and Jackson Road. We are just south of the US 20 Bypass and caddy corner from Jackson Intermediate School.
WHERE DO I PARK AND ENTER THE BUILDING
Parking:
We have a lower and upper parking lot. For those with disabilities, designated handicap spots are located in our upper lot, and if you use the lower parking lot, please use the stairs to the left of the Youth Center doors; the Welcome Center is just inside.

Entering the Building
If you have children, we recommend you enter through DOOR A, which is the main entrance to our South Side Kids Ministry. There you will find the Kids Ministry Ministry's Welcome Desk, as well as classrooms and nurseries.

If you do NOT have children, we recommend you enter through DOOR B, where you will find our main church foyer, including both the Welcome Desk and coffee station to help you enjoy your time at South Side.

What do I wear to church?
Whatever you feel comfortable wearing. Seriously. Don't over think it.
What do the church worship services look like?
Our service consists of three main parts: Worship through Singing, Worship through Giving, and Worship through Teaching.

Our music style is modern in style and song selection; however, we also desire to respect the hymns of old. The best way to see what we mean is to watch the service above.

Weekly, we take up tithes and offerings as a way to worship God with the financial gifts He's provided for us. Together (singing and giving), they provide a balanced worship experience which prepares us to hear the Word of God, which is brought from one of our pastors.

DO YOU MEET DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER CONDITIONS?
If we cancel any services, we contact WSBT with details. We also post to our Facebook page.

WHAT DENOMINATION IS SOUTH SIDE?
South Side Baptist is a Southern Baptist affiliated church that operates independently of any denominational control. By partnering with Southern Baptists for missions and other world-wide ministry efforts, we are able to offer not only our community, but other communities a culturally relevant worship experience as laid out in God's Word.
Family Questions:
Where does my child and/or teenager go during the worship service?
For children ages 0–3, there are nurseries that are designated by age. You may visit the Children’s Check-in Desk, located through the doors under the over-hang, to sign them in and be shown where to drop them off.

For children, ages 4 through Kindergarten, they will stay with you during the “Worship in Song & Giving” portions of the worship service. Right before one of our pastors speak, he will dismiss them to the back of the sanctuary where their teachers will be waiting to take them to Children’s Church.

For children and teenagers, 1st grade and older, they stay with you during the entirety of the worship service.
Who watches my children?
For your peace of mind, all our children and youth volunteers must be members of South Side Baptist Church and go through background checks because we take your children's safety seriously. All activities are designed to be fun and engaging for your child to learn the Word of God and are specifically aimed for your child’s age and/or grade.
Do you have Sunday School for my child or teen?
Yes, we do! Our Sunday School, better known at South Side as “Connect Groups” takes place at 9:30 AM. The children meet in the children wing, located through the doors under the over-hang, and the teens meet in the Youth Center, which is located in the basement. Teens may enter the Youth Center through upstairs (entrance is found at the top of the ramp, located by DOOR B) or through the lower level parking lot doors, DOOR C.

We also have Connect Groups for adults.

We have AWANA clubs on Sunday Nights from 5:45–7:30 PM. AWANA is a place for children to learn about God, learn the Bible, have fun with friends, and connect with caring adults. AWANA is for preschoolers through 6th grade. Click here for more information.

We have Sunday Night SM (youth group) on Sunday Nights from 5:30–7:30 PM for teens who are in 7–12th grade. You can learn all about the Student Ministry by clicking here.
