As Christians, our main goal, our final destination that you have heard so much about, is to be Christ-like and to spend an eternity with the Lord. We must press towards this goal for the prize of the upward call of Christ and Christlikeness (see Philippians 3:14). Our life is like running a race, we must look forward, we must run with a goal in mind, and we must run with all of our might.
“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” —Hebrews 12:1–2
At the end of this race, we will receive an eternity with Jesus—free of pain, death, suffering, loneliness, betrayal, but full of love!
Although it is impossible to be as perfect as Jesus, we still must use all of our effort to have a positive attitude, be kind, serve others, share the Gospel (the good news of Jesus), spend time with God and with our families, and be honest in all situations. The only way that we would be able to be flawless in these aspects, though, is by first starting with Jesus Christ.
Focusing entirely on replicating the wonderful character of Jesus will help us win our race! We must press on with Him at the head of our lives, letting His word and His truth guide us. Jesus should not be an add-on to our crazy lives, but he should be the center. Everything we do should be to glorify His mighty name!
You may be wondering how you can have a close relationship with Jesus Christ. It’s simple. Confess with your mouth that you are a sinner and believe in your heart that Jesus is Lord and decide to follow Him. Make this year, 2017, about Him. Strive to achieve Christlikeness. Dig into the Bible, the Word of God. Pray to Him. Spend time with Him. Serve Him, and share His word.
Do you desire a great 2017? These are the steps. Make it a priority to follow through.
